As a result of filling the heart jar the class got to brainstorm and vote for a special activity, They chose Sports Day, which will be tomorrow (Friday). In addition to wearing red/white/blue to support the Patriots they could also wear any other sports team gear.. They also have permission from me to bring in sports cards and 1 or 2 trophies but trading of cards will not be allowed. ( the cards etc. will stay in their backpacks and only come out at indoor recess. If there is outdoor recess, I will allot a 20 minute block for students to bring them in). Students don't have to participate if they don't want to. I know that not all will not be interested in this special earned activity; however, we brainstormed together, and took an anonymous vote, and this is what won. I told everyone to keep in mind we wouldn't be repeating any special activities we have already done, so if you didn't vote for sports day, the activity you wanted to do might be the next one!
Math homework will often be a variety of puzzles from Greg Tang Math which incorporate fact practice and problem solving along with a variety of other concepts in a fun way. (some of these are games on his website, www.GregTangMath.com ) We do these in class several times a week and I always provide instruction, but in case students forget what to do or you would like some info, I made a video on how to solve each puzzle. Here is the video for DigiCross and NumTanga. Enjoy!
